Weckly Jay – Bebelele

A name that is fun to say, and Weckly Jay uses it well on Bebelele.
The title sounds like a sound before it is a meaning, the kind of word that arrives with a rhythm attached. Southern African pop has a long habit of building hooks from syllables like this, words that people can sing along to long before they can explain them.
Weckly Jay is also credited on a tribute to Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo in this batch, which shows a range between playful records and public-facing ones.
For a dance floor or a house party, a title like this does half the work of getting people to join in.
