Lava Rootz – Just us tonight
Lava Rootz brings its island-inspired musical storytelling to “Just us tonight”, a track associated with the project’s characters Makana and Leilani. The release fits a wider creative concept built around relationships, island life and stories told through music rather than treating each song as an isolated release.
Lava Rootz is an island fusion project created by songwriter and creative director Zachary Kim. Its musical identity draws on roots reggae, blues, Latin soul and tropical influences, with Makana and Leilani serving as recurring characters whose experiences connect the songs and accompanying artwork.
The project’s 2026 catalogue includes releases such as “Roots & Blues”, “Island Rhythms” featuring Leilani, “Green Eyes”, “Come back before the rain” and “Same Sunrise”. These titles suggest an ongoing series of stories about connection, memory and relationships, with the island setting providing a consistent thread across the releases.
Within that approach, the idea of a night shared by two people gives the track an intimate starting point. Lava Rootz builds its identity around the relationship between songwriting, visual storytelling and a recurring fictional world, giving listeners a way to follow Makana and Leilani’s story across individual songs.
