Silica Gel – Cry baby

The music moves through wiry guitar lines, punchy drums and hazy electronic details, creating a sound that can feel playful one moment and slightly uneasy the next. The vocals carry a vulnerable quality, giving the record an emotional centre beneath all the changing textures. Instead of keeping the arrangement perfectly predictable, the band allows certain sections to stretch and shift, which gives the performance a loose, almost unpredictable character. There is a nice tension between the brighter moments and the more unsettled parts of the production.

Silica Gel have developed a reputation for making alternative music that refuses to stay in one lane. Their Korean indie background meets experimental rock and electronic influences, giving the group plenty of room to play with structure, tone and atmosphere. That willingness to take risks is one reason their records often feel different from a typical rock release.

The emotional edge makes this an interesting choice for a late night listen, especially when you want something that feels a little raw and unpredictable. Give it time rather than judging it from the first few seconds, because the arrangement has plenty of small changes to discover.
