Silica Gel – Melatonin 88mg

Soft electronic layers, floating guitar textures and restrained percussion give the record a hazy character from the beginning. The arrangement feels deliberately loose, allowing sounds to hang in the air before another rhythm or texture comes forward. The vocals add to that sleepy atmosphere, while occasional changes in intensity stop the track from becoming completely weightless. It creates the impression of moving through a half awake state where thoughts appear, disappear and return in unexpected ways.

Silica Gel have built much of their appeal around this kind of experimentation, bringing together alternative rock, electronic production and dreamlike textures without worrying too much about conventional boundaries. Their music often gives atmosphere as much importance as the melody, which allows unusual ideas to become part of the listening experience rather than just decoration.

This feels particularly suited to quiet headphone sessions when everything around you has finally slowed down. The spacious production gives the mind plenty of room to wander, making it an interesting addition to a late night or reflective playlist.

Listen and Enjoy!
