Queen Butterfly – Unapologetic

Queen Butterfly puts self-respect at the centre of Unapologetic, a title for anyone who has reached the point where pleasing everybody else is no longer worth the cost.
Being unapologetic does not mean refusing to admit when you are wrong. There is a difference between standing by your values and refusing to learn from your mistakes. People sometimes confuse the two, especially when someone begins setting boundaries after years of saying yes to everything. A person can change their priorities, walk away from an unhealthy situation or choose a different direction without needing everybody to approve.
The subject also raises an everyday question: how much of our behaviour is shaped by what we genuinely believe, and how much comes from fear of what others might say? Family expectations, friendships and relationships can all influence decisions. Advice from people who care about us can be valuable, but constant criticism can make even sensible choices feel like something to apologise for.
There is an important balance in this idea. Confidence should not become an excuse to treat people badly, and independence does not mean ignoring every useful opinion. The point is to know which criticism deserves consideration and which comes from people who simply dislike seeing you do things differently. The actual recording is where the musical approach to this subject can be judged, without guessing at its sound from the title alone.
Unapologetic speaks to anyone learning to trust their own judgement after spending too long seeking permission. You can take responsibility for your actions and still refuse to let other people’s expectations control every decision you make.
